Part 1: Meta Business Suite — Your Central Hub
Meta Business Suite (business.facebook.com) is where everything lives. Your pages, ad accounts, pixels, and product catalogs are all managed here. Set this up before anything else.
1Set Up Meta Business Suite
- 1Go to business.facebook.com. Sign in with a personal Facebook account (this is required — it's the admin account).
- 2Click "Create Account". Enter your business name, your name, and your business email. This separates your personal Facebook from your business assets.
- 3Add your business details: website, address, phone, business category. The more complete this is, the faster Meta approves your ad account.
- 4In Business Suite → Settings → Ad Accounts → Add. Create a new ad account. Set currency and time zone to match your business (these cannot be changed later).
- 5Add your payment method to the ad account immediately. Unverified payment info causes ad account reviews and delays.
Never run ads from a personal profile or page directly. Always use Meta Business Suite with a dedicated ad account. Personal profile ad activity can get your personal account restricted.
2Create and Optimize Your Facebook Business Page
- 1In Business Suite → Pages → Add Page → Create New Page. Choose the category that best describes your store (e.g., "Retail Company", "Product/Service").
- 2Profile Picture: Use your logo. Minimum 180x180px. It should be recognizable as a tiny thumbnail — avoid text-heavy logos that become unreadable at small sizes.
- 3Cover Photo: 851x315px. Use a lifestyle image showing your products in use, or a clean promotional graphic with a clear tagline. Avoid dense text — most people view on mobile where it gets cropped.
- 4About Section: Write a benefit-focused description in 2-3 sentences. Answer: Who are you? What do you sell? Why should someone buy from you? Include your primary keyword naturally (e.g., "premium pet supplies").
- 5Set a username (facebook.com/yourbrandname). This makes your page URL shareable and professional. Use your brand name exactly as it appears elsewhere.
- 6Add a prominent Call to Action button (below your cover photo). For ecommerce, "Shop Now" linking to your store is the most effective choice.
- 7Pin a Welcome Post featuring your best-selling product or most compelling offer. First-time visitors should immediately understand what you sell.
💡 Pro Tip: Enable Messenger auto-reply for your page. Set up a greeting message (e.g., "Hi! Thanks for reaching out to [Brand]. What can we help you with?"). Pages with fast response times get a "Very responsive to messages" badge that significantly improves trust.
3Content Strategy for Your Facebook Page
Organic Facebook reach is low (1-5% of followers), but a well-maintained page is social proof that validates your paid ads. When someone sees your ad, they check your page — what they find determines whether they buy.
Product Content (30%)
High-quality product photos and videos. Show products in use — not just on a white background. Feature different angles, sizes, and real people using them. Include price and a link to buy.
Social Proof (25%)
Customer reviews with photos, UGC (user-generated content), before/after posts, testimonial screenshots. This is the most persuasive content type. Ask customers to tag your page when posting about products.
Value/Educational (25%)
Tips related to your niche, product care guides, styling advice, how-to posts. This builds authority and gives non-buyers a reason to follow you before they're ready to purchase.
Behind-the-Scenes (10%)
Packing orders, team updates, new product sneak peeks. Humanizes your brand and builds connection. Authentic, unpolished content often outperforms professional photography here.
Promotional (10%)
Sales, limited offers, discount codes. Keep this under 10-15% of your content — too much promotional content kills organic reach and makes your page feel like an ad.
💡 Pro Tip: Post 4-5 times per week for consistent presence. Use Facebook's built-in scheduling tool (Creator Studio) to batch your content creation. A 2-hour Sunday content session can schedule your entire week.
Part 2: Facebook Pixel & Conversions API — Your Tracking Foundation
Tracking is the infrastructure that makes ads profitable. Without accurate conversion data, Facebook cannot optimize your campaigns effectively.
1Create and Install Your Facebook Pixel
- 1In Meta Business Suite → Events Manager → Connect Data Sources → Web → Facebook Pixel.
- 2Name your Pixel (e.g., "[Brand] Website Pixel"). One Pixel per website — don't create multiple pixels for the same domain.
- 3Copy your Pixel ID (a 15-16 digit number). In your Ritsbo Dashboard → Settings → Integrations → Facebook Pixel ID. Paste the ID and save.
- 4To verify installation: install the Meta Pixel Helper Chrome extension. Visit your store — if you see a green pixel icon in your browser, it's firing correctly.
Standard Events Your Pixel Should Track:
PageView
Fires on every page — baseline for remarketing audiences
ViewContent
Product page views — identify warm product interest
AddToCart
Highest intent signal for remarketing
InitiateCheckout
Checkout starts — strong signal for campaigns
Purchase
Completed purchase — most important event
Search
Search queries — valuable for catalog campaigns
2Set Up Conversions API (CAPI) — Essential After iOS 14
The standard Pixel is browser-based. iOS 14+ blocks it for up to 40% of users. The Conversions API is server-side — it sends purchase data directly from your server to Meta, bypassing browser restrictions entirely.
- 1In Events Manager → your Pixel → Settings → Conversions API → Set up through partner integration.
- 2In your Ritsbo Dashboard → Settings → Integrations → Conversions API. Enable it and enter your CAPI Access Token (generated in Events Manager → Settings → Generate access token).
- 3After setup, check your Event Match Quality (EMQ) score in Events Manager. Target 6-7+ out of 10. This score measures how well your events match Facebook profiles — higher = better optimization.
- 4Enable Advanced Matching in Pixel settings: hashed email, phone, name, and address data from logged-in customers gets sent to improve match rates. Ritsbo handles this automatically when enabled.
Once both Pixel and CAPI are running together, your Event Deduplication ensures each conversion is only counted once. Check Events Manager → Test Events to confirm no duplicates are appearing.
3Domain Verification — Required for Conversion Tracking
Post-iOS 14, Meta requires domain verification before conversion events can be used in ad campaigns. Without it, your Purchase event won't optimize correctly.
- 1In Meta Business Suite → Brand Safety → Domains → Add Domain. Enter your website domain (e.g., mystore.ritsbo.com or yourcustomdomain.com).
- 2Choose the Meta-tag verification method. Copy the provided HTML tag.
- 3In Ritsbo → Settings → SEO → Meta Verification Tag. Paste the tag and save.
- 4Click Verify Domain in Business Suite. Status should change to "Verified" (green checkmark).
- 5In Events Manager → Aggregated Event Measurement → Configure Web Events. Add "Purchase" as your Priority 1 event and "InitiateCheckout" as Priority 2.
Part 3: Facebook Ads — Campaign Structure, Strategy & Optimization
The three-tier structure (Campaign → Ad Set → Ad) is not just an interface — it reflects how you should think about strategy, targeting, and creative.
1The Campaign — Choose the Right Objective
📌 Sales
Drives purchases on your website. Requires Pixel data. Best option once you have 50+ purchase events. Uses your conversion data to find buyers.
📌 Traffic
Drives visitors to your site. Useful early on when you have no Pixel data. Cheaper CPM but lower purchase intent than Sales campaigns.
📌 Engagement
Gets likes, comments, shares, video views. Use for social proof — boosting a post with strong organic engagement before running it as a conversion ad.
📌 Lead Generation
Collects email addresses directly in Facebook. Great for building your email list without sending people off-platform. Lower friction than landing page forms.
💡 Pro Tip: For new stores: Start with Traffic campaigns to build Pixel data cheaply. After 50+ purchase events, switch to Sales (Conversions) campaigns. Facebook needs this data before it can find buyers effectively.
2The Ad Set — Audience Targeting Deep Dive
Your audience determines your cost and quality. Most ad failures are targeting failures, not creative failures.
Audience Types (in order of effectiveness for ecommerce)
🥇 Tier 1: Custom Audiences (Retargeting)
People who already interacted with your brand. Website visitors, video viewers, page engagers, customer lists. Lowest CPA — these people already know you. Build as many segmented retargeting audiences as possible.
🥈 Tier 2: Lookalike Audiences
Meta finds people who statistically resemble your best customers. Create from your Pixel purchase events (source: 'Customers who purchased'). Use 1-3% similarity for highest quality, 4-7% for more volume. Build lookalikes of 1000+ source users for accuracy.
🥉 Tier 3: Interest Targeting (Cold)
People who have expressed interest in related topics. Use for cold traffic when Lookalikes are still building. Layer 3-5 relevant interests with AND targeting to narrow. Audience size target: 500K – 5M for a typical ecommerce campaign.
Essential Retargeting Audiences to Build Now:
- 1.Cart Abandoners (last 7 days): Visited checkout but didn't purchase. Show them urgency messaging: "Your items are selling fast" + free shipping offer.
- 2.Product Viewers (last 14 days): Viewed specific products but didn't add to cart. Show exact products they viewed (Dynamic Product Ads handle this automatically).
- 3.Past Customers (last 180 days): Your most valuable audience for upsells and new products. They've already trusted you with money — acquisition cost drops to near zero.
- 4.Video Viewers (75%+): If you run video ads, people who watched 75%+ are high-intent. Retarget with a direct purchase offer.
3Ad Creative — What Actually Makes People Click (and Buy)
Creative is the biggest lever in modern Facebook advertising. The same audience with different creative can produce 5x different results.
Ad Formats and When to Use Each:
📱 Single Image
Simplest to produce. Works well for clean product shots with one clear offer. Test multiple images against each other.
📱 Carousel
Show 3-5 products or 3-5 product benefits. Excellent for catalog ads. Lets customers browse without leaving Facebook.
📱 Video (5-30 sec)
Best performing format in 2025. Shows product in use. First 3 seconds determine if they keep watching — start with the product, not your logo.
📱 Collection Ad
Mobile only. Taps open an immersive Instant Experience. Highest-performing format for mobile ecommerce.
High-Converting Ad Copy Framework (PAS):
Example:
"Tired of tangled dog leashes on every walk? Most leashes tangle because they use single-cord designs. The PawsEasy Retractable uses a patented triple-lock system — 4,200+ dog owners gave it 5 stars. Shop now and get free shipping on orders over $35. →"
Ad Testing Protocol (Systematic Approach):
- Week 1:Test 3-5 different creative formats (image, video, carousel) with the same copy and audience. Find the winning format.
- Week 2:Test 3-5 different copy angles with the winning format. (Price-focused vs benefit-focused vs social proof-focused)
- Week 3:Test 3-5 different audiences (interest vs lookalike vs broad) with winning creative + copy combo.
- Week 4+:Scale winning combination. Increase budget by 20% every 3 days. Never 2x overnight — this resets the learning phase.
4Budgeting, Bidding & Scaling
Budget Framework by Stage:
Key Metrics to Monitor Daily:
CPM
Cost per 1000 impressions. High CPM = competitive audience or low relevance score.
CTR (Link)
Target 1-3%. Below 1% = creative problem. Above 3% = excellent creative.
CPC
Cost per click. High CPC usually means low CTR or competitive audience.
ROAS
Revenue ÷ ad spend. Your North Star metric. Must exceed break-even to scale.
Frequency
Average times each person saw your ad. Above 3-4 = audience fatigue. Rotate creatives.
Add to Cart Rate
If high but low purchase rate = checkout friction (page speed, price, trust signals).
Part 4: Facebook & Instagram Shops + Marketplace
Social commerce — selling directly on Facebook and Instagram without redirecting to an external site — has grown significantly. Lower friction = higher conversion.
1Set Up Meta Commerce Manager (Facebook & Instagram Shop)
- 1In Meta Business Suite → Commerce Manager → Get Started. Select "Sell on Facebook" and/or "Sell on Instagram".
- 2Choose your checkout method: "Check out on another website" (Ritsbo) — this sends buyers to your store for checkout, which you control fully.
- 3Connect your Product Catalog: In Commerce Manager → Catalog → Add Products → Use Data Feed. Enter your Ritsbo product feed URL.
- 4Once approved (1-5 business days), your products appear in your Facebook Shop tab and can be tagged in posts and Stories.
💡 Pro Tip: Tag products in all your organic posts. When followers tap a tagged product, they see price and description and can click through to your store. This converts your existing content into a passive sales channel.
2Dynamic Product Ads — Your Most Powerful Retargeting Tool
Dynamic Ads automatically show each person the exact products they viewed on your site. It's personalized advertising at scale with minimal ongoing management.
- 1Ensure your Product Catalog is synced in Commerce Manager and Pixel is installed with ViewContent, AddToCart, and Purchase events.
- 2In Ads Manager → New Campaign → Sales → Catalog Sales. Connect your product catalog.
- 3Set audience to "Remarketing to people who interacted with your products". Choose "Viewed or added to cart but not purchased — last 14 days."
- 4In the ad creative, Meta auto-populates product images, names, and prices from your catalog. Customize your overlay text (e.g., "Still thinking about this?" or "Free shipping available").
