Halcyon occupies a former textile hall that was empty for eleven years before a group of curators took the lease. Rather than imitate the large institutions, the museum chose the opposite strategy: fewer shows, more research, and labels a visitor can actually read.
The permanent rooms hold the founding collection, while the main hall is given over to one loan exhibition each season. Restorations take place in public, so visitors can watch conservation work in progress.
